American Rivers to Discuss Dam Removals at Next Meeting (3/12/15)

Lisa Hollingsworth-Segedy from American Rivers will be attending the next SRWC meeting on Thursday, March 12, 2015 to discuss dam removals within the Slippery Rock Creek Watershed.  To date, four run-of-the-river dams have been removed in the watershed: two dams on Wolf Creek, Duck Pond Dam in Moraine State Park on Muddy Creek, and Allegheny Camp Dam on Slippery Rock Creek in the southern portion of the watershed.  Please come to discuss these past projects and potential new projects.

Pennsylvania removed 17 dams in 2014, making in the top state for the twelfth year in a row.  To date, nearly 300 dams have been removed in the state.  Removing dams restores streams to their natural condition, improves safety, and increases recreational opportunities.
